CENTER SQUARE COMMUNITY BAKING COALITION (anyone can join!)

The idea for this coalition started shortly after my first experience baking fresh bread at home. My partner and I, acting as team, came up with the end product. It was a thick and airy focaccia bread topped with crispy sharp cheddar, thinly sliced jalapenos, and fresh kalamata olives. Sadly, up until that point the majority of bread I consumed came from grocery stores. So, I thought of that as the only convenient option for quite a while….right up until I took my first bite of the warm bread straight from my apartment’s oven. For a relatively small amount of money, and not that much effort, we created something that tasted amazing. Not to mention the portion was large and lasted me a while as well! My first thought was “…this is bloody  brilliant – everyone must experience this!” While true, I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that the majority of the people I know have the ways and means to make this homemade fresh bread experience happen for themselves and their families. That is when the idea became more focused:

Purpose
  • Bring friends and families together by partaking in the fun and social act of baking homemade bread at home while maintaining an altruistic undertone.
  • Our efforts will center around providing delicious home baked bread to those in need (i.e. delivering to homeless shelters / soup kitchens etc.).
  • Volunteer sign up will take place on our coalitions forum. Please register and introduce yourself today by following this link: Coalition Forum
Short Term Goals
  • Get the word out! Come up with flyers and network with local organizations.
  • Create list of organizations who are in need of our volunteer baking efforts. Once created we will rotate organizations on a weekly basis.
  • Develop a forum system that will serve as the center of operations for people to communicate and sign up for volunteering. [DONE – volunteer options will be posted once the list of organizations is finalized]
  • Finalize Facebook group.
  • Go live and get people baking and delivering fresh loafs of bread!
Short Term Goals Completed:
  • Our forum is up and running 🙂 Please follow this link to register: Coalition Forum Link! This will serve as our communication hub. Once we finalize our list of participating organizations, we will begin to post weekly sign up slots. Stop on by and introduce yourself! Please note you can access the forum by clicking the icon to the right of the Facebook icon on our website’s banner.
  • Outreach Report:
    • 8/23/17 – sent outreach email to Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless
    • 8/24/17 – sent Facebook outreach to South End Children’s Cafe
    • 8/24/17 – sent outreach email to Catholic Charities

Center Square Baking Coalition has it’s own email should you have any comments, questions, or concerns: CenterSqaureBakingCoalition@Gmail.com

This is a blossoming idea and we need all the support we can get at this stage! Please share this with friends and family.

Cheers,

Eric F.
